Description
The Daggerwings contain about 17 different species that live in Central and South America. This group is characterized by very long tails on the hind wings and carefully positioned eyespots below the wings (ventral side). When these butterflies are perched with their wings closed, the tails resemble antennae and the out-turned eyespots complete the illusion of eyes.
