The Clipper butterfly can be found with a variety of different colors such as blue, green, brown and gold with each different color form considered a subspecies of Parthenos sylvia. Our specimen is a gold/brown color. The Etymology of the scientific name: The butterfly genus Parthenos is Greek for virgin and the species name sylvia comes from the Latin word silva which means “wood or forest”.
