Grasshoppers are related to the moon in Japanese culture and a symbol of good luck. This stunning grasshopper is from South America and is famous for its deep purple wings. Made with sterling silver and glass, the inner wing of a Titanacris albipes species grasshopper.
The grasshopper wing is secured in a sterling silver and glass pendant that is reversible because it hangs from a pivoting bail. The domed glass on the front and back protects the wing and displays its amazing beauty.
The wing area of the pendant measures about 1″ long x 1/2″ wide (29 x 21mm). Comes with 18 inch sterling silver chain.
CARE AND CLEANING:
Sterling silver and glass can be polished with soft cloth. Pendants are water resistant but NOT waterproof. Please remove before showering or swimming.
I have a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology that focused on insects and care deeply about the environment. A majority of my specimens I use are raised on butterfly farms around the world and are NOT collected from the wild. These farms raise butterflies for live flying butterfly exhibits, museums and collectors. These farms can work as an important conservation tool by giving underprivileged populations a source of income and reason to protect rainforest habitat (where most butterflies are raised). Learn more about butterfly farming.
